Welcome to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office Website.  As your Sheriff I would like to offer you an inside look into the Putnam County Sheriff's Office.

The Sheriff's Office is located at:

1035 Heritage Trl, Ottawa, OH 45875-8524

This office is composed of many different divisions including Road Patrol, Detectives, Corrections, Communications and Administration. Currently the Sheriff's office has 54 full time employees 17 civilian part time employees and 22 part time auxiliary employees.

The current facility was commissioned and put into service in December of 2002, with  inmates being moved from the old jail, which was built in 1890, in February 2003.  The 33,000 sq. ft. building was constructed with the latest in technology equipment, to better facilitate operations and security.

With the aid of technology, we are better able to serve the public, by offering information on this web page and beyond.  Today’s crimes are much more complex than ever before, therefore, we in law enforcement are turning to the community for help in doing our jobs.  Many Federal, State and Local crime prevention programs have been started, urging citizens to be vigilant and more conscious of their surroundings.  Then, by reporting the suspicious activity, we are better able to respond and/or to suppress crime as it happens.

I urge you to consider a “Neighbor Watch program, and encourage other’s “See Something, Say Something”.  For more information on this and other crime prevention programs, safety talks for any age range, Give us a call.  We can customize a presentation for your group.  We also offer gun locks, child car seat inspections, golf cart inspections,  child I.D. programs,  and WEB checks for employment purposes, to name a few.

We are proud to be your “First Line of Defense” in Homeland security, and are striving to make Putnam County a safer place to live.

Sheriff James R. Beutler
